I am a self-defined community psychophysiologist who is here to share stories about how our communities' coping strategies historically have translated to how we respond to our current circumstances inside and out.
As a licensed clinical health psychologist and biofeedback practitioner, this means that I use my expertise on human emotions, physiology, sensations, cognitions, and behaviors to help people tell their stories and cultivate a more meaningful life experience. Within the walls of various health care systems, I have facilitated many conversations exploring how the stories we tell ourselves, our colleagues, and our patients affect their day to day lived experience. I use a illness narrative, behavioral ecological and psychophysiological model to understand how life experiences, over time, become symptoms (or, conversely, signs of health and resiliency).
This forum is one way to capture some of the unfolding conversations that I witness in my work. In each podcast, I will interview people using a socio-cultural genogram approach to explore how the socio-political context of their family lineage influences their day to day experiences, successes, and challenges. I will invite a panel of psychologists with a variety of backgrounds to reflect on how they understand or conceptualize the information gathered through the interview. In the blog posts, I will highlight key concepts to reflect on and explore connections to relevant scientific research.
I wish I could say that I have a higher purpose for this project, but, to be honest, I just want to have these conversations with the AH-MAZING people I have known in my life! I do believe these dialogues will reveal a deeper story of how all of our communities and context brought us to this stage of the game in life.
Hope you stay and enjoy the show!
